We just got a child's basketball hoop.
Of course now the question is "But where to put it?"
On one hand, it's not bright orange or day-glow green, and it does provide The Child with something to do (other than clip back plants that don't need clipping). But on the other hand, it turns the only flat spot in The Garden of Discontent into a basketball court. And the ball rolls with suspicious regularity into the bulbs (OK, OK, the bulbs are in area A1 and A2, the lowest parts of the yard).
Maybe we can make it look like an Inca ball court.

- Patio is too sunny in the Summer
- Patio is too dark (and wet) in the Winter
- There's no comfortable place to sit
- There's too much white-trash-detrius and plastic-baby-crap
- I have to traipse through the garage to get tea and snacks
- I have to constantly tell the child not to
- play with the hose
- go into the tool shed
- whack the shrubbery
- molest garden decorations
- The ground is fairly uneven
- I keep finding damn clothespins everywhere
- The neighbors' conversations are audible
- There's no outside electrical outlets
- And I still miss my gazing globe
